Ecommerce explained simply
What is “Ecommerce”?
Selling goods or services online. In photography, ecommerce work helps shoppers understand what they are buying.
- 01Online shopper
- 02Product questions
- 03Useful photographs
How do you use Ecommerce practically?
A small exercise
Choose one product and list what a shopper needs to see: shape, size, colour, details and how it is used.
- Make a starting version and keep it so you can compare fairly.
- Try the change in the exercise. Keep unrelated choices steady where the exercise allows.
- Compare the result at the size your viewer will actually see. Write down what changed and whether it helped.
How does Ecommerce solve a problem?
It gives a purpose to the shoot so the images answer buying questions rather than merely looking attractive.
What can go wrong?
Do not imply that a product has features or colours it does not have. Check platform image rules before delivery.
How do you turn the idea into a useful solution?
Start with the specific problem in your image or brief, try the exercise, and keep the version that meets that need. If the result is worse, return to the starting version and change one choice at a time.
Quick check: can you explain the three ideas in the diagram?
Online shopper → Product questions → Useful photographs. Explain how each relates to the exercise. Then compare the starting version with your result and choose the one that meets your brief.
